Help MHS Secure a Home: Contact Your Councillor
MHS is ready for a base of operations. Contact your local councillor and let them know you support MHS’s goal of securing a physical location and zoning approval.
Since 1999, Mississauga Humane Society has operated as a distributed network of foster homes. Thanks to our incredible volunteers, we’ve been able to save countless cats and dogs from kill shelters and life on the streets. Our foster system ensures that animals wait for their forever homes in comfort and care.
Now, we are ready to take the next step. A physical location will help us grow as an organization and increase our capacity to support animals in need.
Our first step is securing the appropriate zoning approval from Mississauga City Council.
To do this, we need your help! Contact your local councillor and let them know you support MHS’s goal of securing a physical location and zoning approval.

Dear [Councillor Name],
I am writing to express my support for the Mississauga Humane Society’s (MHS) request for zoning approval for a physical location.
In recent years, MHS has undergone a leadership transition and has demonstrated a strong commitment to expanding its operations to better serve animals in need and increase its rescue capacity. As a fully volunteer-run organization, the Mississauga Humane Society currently supports over 100 animals in foster care. Many of these animals require significant veterinary treatment and dedicated socialization efforts before they are ready for adoption. Depending on their individual needs, this process can take months to years, during which they are fully supported in foster care by MHS.
Through its foster network and rescue efforts, the organization plays a critical role in trapping, caring for, and socializing stray animals, as well as providing safe placement for surrendered pets and rescuing animals from overcrowded or high-risk shelters. While municipal animal services are an important part of the city’s infrastructure, they do not have the capacity to meet all needs, particularly for after-hours trapping. In some cases, residents contacting 311 have been referred to the Mississauga Humane Society instead of municipal animal services for assistance.
Granting zoning approval for a physical location would enable the organization to grow its impact and better support the community. A dedicated facility would allow for educational and outreach programming, adoption and fundraising events, centralized storage and distribution of donated supplies, and improved coordination of volunteers and administrative activities. It would also provide a safe, structured environment for animals transitioning into foster care, including space for rehabilitation and socialization.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]

Newly In Our Care
Meet the newest animals to join Mississauga Humane Society’s care! Each one has been rescued from uncertain circumstances and is now on their journey to a better life—receiving medical attention, nourishment, and lots of love from our foster network. Stay tuned as they grow stronger and get closer to finding their forever homes.
Elinor & Blossom
MHS volunteers received a call from a concerned couple. There were 3 kitties coming to their house for over a week. They were so very hungry, and it was freezing outside.
MHS volunteers worked with the couple and all 3 of the kitties were trapped.
It turned out they were a little family: a momma kitty ( about 2 years old) a big sister ( about 8 months old) and a kitten ( about 10 weeks old).
All of the kitties were immediately taken to our partner vet and the females were spayed and vaccinated.
Elinor, the momma kitty, and Blossom, the big sister, are being taken care of by our fosters. The kitten has been completely vetted and has been adopted.
Trapped In An Auto Yard
Selina, Sydney, Saylor and Spencer were trapped as babies in a filthy auto repair yard. They’re now receiving a lot of love and care from their foster families.
Sweet Boy
Sweet Boy is just that: a charming lovely affectionate boy.
His human momma passed away recently, and Sweet Boy is in a loving foster home.
In time, when Sweet Boy is ready, he will be put up for adoption.
Until then, he is receiving lots of love and care.
Spook
Spook was born into care when his very pregnant momma gave birth in our partner vets office. Spook (aka Vizzini) was adopted.
His human momma passed away recently and Spook is in a loving foster home. In time, when Spook is ready, he will be put up for adoption. Until then, he is receiving lots of love and care.
We’re making a difference, with your support.
Every animal we rescue receives essential veterinary care, is spayed or neutered, and is provided with food, water, toys, and litter. Thanks to generous donations and the support of our dedicated foster families, MHS ensures each animal gets the care they need to heal, grow, and thrive.
Check out our new look!
Introducing the redesigned logo for Mississauga Humane Society. This bold new look that represents our renewed vision and continued commitment to animal welfare.
Mississauga Humane Society was founded in 1999, and in 2019, we went through a transition with the appointment of a new board of directors. Our mission remains the same: to save as many animals as possible. But with a new direction, we’re also focusing on better supporting our fosters and connecting with the community that makes our work possible.
This transition is reflected in our refreshed logo for Mississauga Humane Society. A bold new look that represents our renewed vision and continued commitment to animal welfare.
The playful silhouettes of a collared dog and cat speak to our role as advocates for animals in need. Their presence in the logo is a tribute to the thousands of pets we’ve helped rescue, rehabilitate, foster, and rehome … and the many more we aim to support!
At the center is a house icon, which carries special meaning for us. It stands for the foster homes that provide temporary shelter, the forever homes we work hard to find for every animal, and our ultimate goal of securing a physical base of operations for MHS. A place where education, outreach, and rescue efforts can thrive under one roof.
This logo marks more than just a visual update — it symbolizes where we’re headed as an organization. Here are a few of the exciting initiatives we’re working on:
Membership
Becoming a Mississauga Humane Society member means having a voice in shaping our future. Members vote on key decisions that drive change in our organization, including electing our Board of Directors. It’s a meaningful way to help guide our mission. Learn more about membership on our new membership page.
Finding a Home
We are actively working toward securing a physical base of operations. Having a dedicated location would make a significant impact on our ability to educate, rescue, and find homes for animals. You can follow our progress and learn how to help on our new progress tracker page.
Adoption Stories
We’re thrilled to see so many of our cats and dogs find their loving forever homes. With this new section on our website, we can take a moment to celebrate their journeys and see how they’re thriving. Explore our happy homes: adoption stories.
Long Term Care Page
Many people come to our website because they’re ready to adopt, but we also have a lot of long-term-care animals that would benefit from your support. See the animals in our care, read their stories and get an understanding of the work we do as a rescue and how every dollar makes a difference in the lives of animals. A special thank you to Rule1 Agency for helping us bring this transformation to life. They spent the last few months helping us define our values, craft our messaging, create a new identity and launch our updated website experience. We couldn’t have done it without them.
