WHEN COVID HIT
Our fundraising events were completely halted, but the animal medical needs have not weaned including:
With over 100+ animals still in care and without the chance of in person fundraising events like our fundraising partner, Rama Gaming House- we are really feeling the financial pressure.
- Serious allergy and digestive issues; including vet based diet needs for renal, diabetes, and food sensitives
- SNAP Testing for all our cats in care; testing for FIV and Feline Leukimia Virus
- Dental surgeries and monthly rechecks of stomatitis (inflammation of the gums and/or bloody, painful mouth ulcers)
- Monthly medications for thyroid issues, diabetes, antibiotic or steroids for stomatitis, anti-seizure medication, etc
- Monthly blood tests and rechecks for ongoing issues with our diabetic animals and FeLV+ cats
- Emergency situations; a cat suffered a stroke; a cat got mauled by raccoon; broken limbs; neurological crisis
- And of course regular needs; food, litter, annual vet checks and vaccines

We need the communities support to maintain what we've built
While COVID restricts us from community events
We continued operations while other rescues had to close to the public, or stop intake at the beginning of lock down. We were the referred rescue by other organizations to help surrendered or strays - and we helped.
We do not have the funds to continue taking in new animals at this time, while we have over 90+ animals in our care that still require medical care, food, and supplies. We know our community understands that we must honour the commitment we made to those animals in our care to continue supporting them until their adoption.
Pausing intake, and pleas for public assistance is not new to MHS (as evidence in local newspapers and the Toronto Star) - as MHS is run strictly on donations from the public.

WE NEED YOUR HELP TODAY
Currently, our online fundraising is our main source of income for the rescue, especially since March 2020, as we have not been able to host fundraising events, participate with our Rama Gaming House charity partner, or have our cash donation boxes set up at our supportive stores.
We have listed just our main vet's monthly bills from the last 6 months below, we have not included the other 2 locations we have used, or the specialists we have had to consult with to provide the best care for our animals.
