MEET THE DREAMSICLES
If you are on our Instagram, you have already gotten the first glimpse into our #dreamscicles and what a whirlwind adventure they have brought us to!
Their story begins with a happenstance crossing of two rescues via a Instagram post. Carroll Organics Farm and Sanctuary has recently undertaken the huge responsibility of opening their doors to orphaned, stray, or unwanted kittens in their local area of Hanover, and had put out a call for donations to help feed all the babies they were bringing in. In the post, they said they were receiving 2-5 calls a day about kittens and it was so hard to save them all! Well, we just happened to have a quiet month of kittens here at MHS and figured we had to reach out and see if we could help!
Within the week, Carroll's and MHS joined forces to help with a large in-home issue.
Carroll's farm got a call about a house over run with babies; unfixed females who got themselves a few boyfriends and now the family was desperate to get them all fixed and homed!
13 felines ended up being pulled from that home; 4 kittens at 4 weeks of age; 4 kittens of 12 weeks of age, 3 kittens of 6 months; and naughty mommy, and daddy! Carroll's kept the youngest babies, they have the resources for weaning kittens, and MHS took the rest; all 9 of the "ready to go" cats were taken into MHS care. Below are the first images before vet care and clean up.
*We named our beautiful mama cat, Natasha as a memorial to a wonderful person who has passed on. In leu of flowers, her friends and family have been making donations in her honor, to help us do what we do, and it felt right to place the honor of the name Natasha to our gorgeous, safe RARE orange female in this great rescue. We share our condolences to Natasha's friends and family in this hard time, and hope we can honor Natasha in the safe rescue and homing of the #dreamsicle family.
RESCUED just in time too!
What makes this big rescue so much more important, not only to stop the cycle of pregnancy, but we truly saved a life this week.
Our vet just informed us, during Natasha's spay surgery, it was discovered she was actually pregnant AGAIN!
HOWEVER; this new pregnancy was ECTOPIC, meaning it was OUTSIDE the safety of the uterine wall. The cells were developing within the Fallopian tubes (the tubes that connect the ovaries to the uterus). If this abnormal pregnancy had been allowed to continue, Natasha would not have survived.
We are truly blessed for our fateful meeting of two rescues on Instagram that saved all these babies, and saved Natasha's life.
It took 2 and a half long weeks to help clear up all their infestations; this group was full of fleas and tape worms, and had the worst case of ear mites our vet has seen in a long time. With constant clean up, extra rounds of de-worming, and daily ear cleaning and medicating, most of them have a clean bill of health! Daddy Ivan needed a few more days at the vets, but everyone else is at our cat enclosures at Pet Valu Mavis and Global Pet Foods Burnhamthorpe. Due to their worms, they are all very skinny and need some plumping up, but otherwise, the happiest, friendliest kittens you've seen!
