Cat Adoption Information
Adopting a cat from Mississauga Humane Society
Most of our cats and dogs stay in foster homes until adoption. We provide them with affection, food, medical attention and basic training. If you've chosen a cat to adopt, we will arrange for a visit. Some cats are available for the public to meet at adoption locations in Mississauga.
Bringing a cat into your home is a wonderful, exciting exciting experience. While we are thrilled you've decided to take the plunge, we ask you to please think long-term before adopting a cat or dog. It's important to inform yourself of the responsibilities of becoming a parent to a pet. For example, the average lifespan of a cat is between 13-17 years (though lots of cats have lived over 20 years). We've provided more info below on bringing home a new cat or kitten.
For a stress-free transition, please be prepared with all the necessary supplies before arrival. Choose a special, quiet room or space for the cat's initial few days to help your new pet adjust to you and your home. If you have other animals in your home, introduce them gradually to avoid overwhelming the newcomer.
Once you choose a cat to adopt, the first step is filling out an application. Thank you for your patience as we are obligated to ensure every cat is placed in a safe and loving home, for life.
