CALVIN AND HOBBES - An Adoption Story
We are so excited to share this story of success for our alumnis, Calvin and Hobbes.
Their new mom wrote this on their adoption day in January 2023 about their intense love of these two boys. Today is Adoption Day for our Calvin & Hobbes!
Can there be any deeper unconditional love? Just when you think you feel it all, two little sweethearts enter your world and change everything! Happy Adoption Day Calvin & Hobbes our beautiful boys, our newest Castro family members! For those of us who share our lives with pets which we call our family, it’s difficult to watch them suffer and have to say goodbye. We wonder if it’s possible to love again like the way we loved the one we watched leave.
Never in our wildest dreams could our family have imagined that Calvin and Hobbes, two beautiful spirits, would change our family unit so quickly. They came into our homes through the Foster to Adopt Program at the Mississauga Humane Society as little strangers and 3 weeks later we can't imagine life without them. Calvin and Hobbes are the most incredibly beautiful spirits we've ever met. What an adventure it’s been with these two quirky little boys. It was like they were premade just for us. Our family loves to love and these two boys are the perfect givers and receivers. Although slightly timid at first, they warmed up to us quickly and have embraced their new surroundings. Everyday is such a gift to watch them grow and develop their personalities. It is an absolute pleasure to love them and to look after them. They let us know when they want attention and play, and during play time they run like “bulls” through our house and then nap like little babies. They love to be picked up and the minute you talk to either one, they start to purr. They absolutely love interaction. They also love to be brushed and they love to be played with. Sometimes they just sit there as if in complete gratitude of our newfound love and you can see a smile on their faces. They make us laugh Our hearts are filled with gratitude.
They are the definition of pure unconditional love, and our family easily reciprocates love They spend time with the four of us and amuse each other by chasing, climbing, jumping, and exploring. One of their favorite things is sitting by the patio deck windows watching the squirrels come up to our deck, they lower themselves like they are about to attack, YET they do nothing but watch and stay amused for hours. They love to be loved, picked up, belly rubbed.. We are in awe that the boys “high 5” and sit” when you ask them too. (Thank you foster dad Darryl for teaching these two sweet little boys).
It takes a special warm spirited person to nurture and love animals. We cannot thank foster dad Daryl for his patience taking care of these two beautiful boys for 10 months and loving them unconditionally. Daryl has taken care of their every need, having the patience to train them, and offering them opportunities they never had before. Daryl is a true definition of what a nurturer is. We thank you Daryl for an incredible job and allowing us the privilege and pleasure to continue doing what you have taught them to do and be.
Lori Russell was our first point of contact at the Mississauga Humane Society. She is the most loving, warming, accepting person you can be grateful to meet. She made our experience from day one with the boys so comfortable and gave us every piece of information we inquired about. Lori from our home to yours thank you from the depths of our hearts for our amazing interaction, our amazing experience adopting within our community, and for the service, time, patience, and effort that you so graciously provide for our community and for being exactly who you are. We are so grateful to have crossed paths and look forward to our newfound friendship.
Friends, The Mississauga Humane Society doesn't just rescue and save animals, they create homes, they provide love, they understand, they respect all forms of life and for this we should all be very grateful. If it wasn’t for their effort and patience, kindness and empathy, families such as mine and yours would never have the pleasure to experience what we now have.
The Foster to Adopt Program is an example of what it means to take responsibility to preserve and nurture and care for all of life We encourage anyone who is thinking of fostering or adopting an animal you wish to have the privilege to call your family, to reach out to The Mississauga Humane Society for more information/direction/advice. You will never regret adopting or fostering a beautiful spirit that needs
a little extra love and joy and in return you receive all the joy and love and honour for saving a life and making that life a part of yours. The Castro family thanks MHS from the depths of our heart
“Never apologize for being oversensitive and emotional when defending the welfare of wildlife, let this be a sign that you have a big heart and aren't afraid to show your true feelings. These emotions give you the strength to fight for what is right and to be the voice of those who cannot be heard.”
