A WINTER SOLSTICE- A RESCUE STORY

We were called in to help a mother and her tiny kitten from living in a truck yard.

A community member called us to help trap a mother and tiny baby from a truck yard at the beginning of November 2022. She hadn't had success finding help and was getting anxious about the baby being able to survive the winter. As you can see, it was not a safe, or well protected location for cats to survive freezing temperatures.
The original call came in for the mother/kitten pair and we quickly found a foster home to prepare while our trapper got her gear together and got to work! It wasn't long before a sweet little baby came into view and walked right into the trap, following his nose for some much need food! We welcomed little BOLT into care November 17th!
We got the best case scenario for a situation like this; catch the baby first because a mother cat has more skills and experience to survive on her own over a young kitten.

AT THE VETS GETTING MEDICALLY CHECKED.
Heading back out, it was a few more nights before there was activity at the trap site again, but it wasn't who we were expecting! While black and white mama had appeared and was scoping out the food and the trap, a new face appeared to eagerly accept the buffet offered! A grey mystery cat helped himself to the food and got trapped! Unfortunately, mama was right next to the trap. It was like watching a cartoon, she leapt up and scrambled through the air to get away from the scary loud noise and disappeared into the night!

MYSTERY- MALE - 1 year - FIV+
Although we weren't expecting him, we welcomed MYSTERY, the grey male into our care! He had never been spotted at the location before, but we were not going to turn him away.
MYSTERY is estimated to be only a year, he is FIV positive, and is settling into foster care well.
Our trapper decided it would be best to allow the community member to just feed Mama and reestablish a food routine and trust after her scare. We waited until Mama had returned to a regular appearance before we went out again to get her.

It was Dec 20, on the eve of the Winter Solstice, our trapper was sitting in her car waiting, and reading up on some Winter Solstice quotes and found this (see image).
When she looked up again, a black and white cat was walking into the trap!
We were so excited! We immediately posted to Instagram and let everyone know Bolt's mom was caught!
We named this cat SOLSTICE!

The text came quickly the next day by our confused and concerned community member! "I thought you were going to catch Mama! She's sitting here waiting for food, what happened!?"
We were STUNNED! We had dropped off SOLSTICE, the black and white cat that had been trapped the night before, at the vets that morning, so who was still out there!?

This terrified and cut up black and white cat, who we named SOLSTICE. Caught on the eve of the Winter Solstice.....

IS A BOY!!!

A sneaky, and smart boy, who followed his nose to a better life indoors. He is also FIV positive.
We shared the frustrating news with our community over social media, and let our contact know we wouldn't be giving up! So after Christmas, our trapper gathered all her gear once more and headed out to find that mama!! We didn't have to wait long before she arrived for her food, and FINALLY WE GOT HER!

MEET MAMA WYNTER!
She is about a year old, clearly unhappy to be in that trap waiting to be seen at the vets in this photo.  She just doesn't realize how warm and safe she is going to be for the rest of her life now that she isn't in a truck yard!

BOLT'S HAPPY ENDING

Bolt has been adopted and is clearly loving his new life inside! Check out what his new mom had to say!
His favorite toy has to be the little colorful springs, he loves tossing those around and running after them! He loves the wands with the fur on them!
Bolt is more like a dog because he loves playing fetch and he's so good at it too! His personality is very chatty and sassy! Haha! But he loves to cuddle too!
