We are pleased to announce some recent changes to the Mississauga Humane Society. We have spent our time in lock down building up our organization, and we are happy to share some of our recent achievements!
If you are not familiar with us, we have been in existence for 20+ years and are a 100% volunteer organization working in Mississauga’s neighbourhoods to rescue, care and find forever homes for stray, feral and abandoned animals.
We are now open for MEMBERSHIP!
As with other local Ontario humane societies, our members have the opportunity to take a more active role while supporting a vital community service.
Membership has been a year in the making, and we cannot wait to see how much stronger we will be with our members joining the cause!
HUMANE CANADA ASSOCIATE STATUS!
As an associate member, we are connected into a strong and cohesive national movement. These are very positive and exciting changes for Mississauga Humane Society.
If you would like to learn more about our organization, become a member, make a donation or volunteer. We, and the animals we support, would be happy to hear from you.
What is a Shadow Cat?
A shadow cat is a term we use to refer to any cat that is nervous, scared, shy, or otherwise leery of humans. They are most commonly trapped off the street and have had a harsh beginning in life.
Shadow cats come in all shapes and colours; they all have a tough story to tell, and unfortunately, for many, we can only speculate about the things they have experienced.
May 4, 2020 - Everyone is doing well!
We are so excited to share that all of our Brewary kitties are doing so well, and some are already looking at their forever homes!
We had such a great time at PUCKS AND PAWS hosted by Bark N Rec, Global News, and Ren's Pet Depot at the local Paramount Fine Food Center (formally Hershey Centre)!
WAY TO GO STEELHEADS
This is such an amazing event to be apart of; so many big names in the dog world shared the floor with us!
St. John's Therapy Dogs were on site with their perfectly composed therapy dogs!
Ren's Pet Depot, our new friends, were on site with tennis balls!
The Golden Rescue became great new friends with their booth beside ours; their golden canine friends got on great with our "golden" feline visitor, Cedar!
And so many more! We are so proud to be apart of such a fun and inclusive event with dogs and their owners; and animal lovers of all sizes!
As many of you know (if your not on our mailing list, what are you waiting for!?) we had a major year in 2019 with huge medical miracles and behavioral come backs. Our biggest feline miracle was little Cedar who joined us for our event on Sunday; this little guy had a deformed rib cage and we didn't think he'd make it, but the amazing skills and dedication of Mississauga Oakville Veterinary Emergency Clinic gave him the never before done reconstructive surgery that saved his life!
We are looking forward to the amazing stories and lives we can change with YOUR HELP in this new decade!
Little Miss Sassy Pants
July 9 2013 - January 6 2020
Female seal-point Canadian Sphynx
Mommy’s first cat was quite the character. Pants had her own little opinion on everything, and usually got her way. At a mere 7 lbs, she somehow managed to keep her mommy scrunched up on the edge of their Queen size bed. Hot like a water bottle, and skin like a peach, she ruled her domain. Kitty toys scattered across the house - her favourite were plastic springs that skittered along the floors, enticing a chase for the derpy huntress. She loved a warm stove top and cuddles with her mama. Often found curled up in a blanket, she could always be lured out for rubs and attention. Adored by all who met her; despite her preference for mommy’s company and standoffishness with new people. Once she finally warmed up to someone, she left a lasting impression.
Sassy was curious, stubborn, vocal, but mostly a lovely little purr machine.
She Will Be Greatly Missed
We share our condolences with "Mommy" for her loss of Sassy Pants. We appreciate everything she has done to help support our mission and being apart of our community. Rest in Peace Little Miss Sassy Pants.
