McKenzie Silver, the Community Cat

McKenzie is a true community rescued cat by the Mississauga Humane Society, who would not be with us without a team of people who support our mission!

In September of 2019, a guest at a local Mississauga Air BnB had noticed a scraggly looking tuxedo cat hanging around her place for a few nights, so she had put a bit of food out for him. On her last night she put up a post on Facebook to ask if anyone knew who he belonged to. A local woman got in contact with the guest, found his location, and continued to feed him until an owner could be found.
One of our Mississauga Humane Society volunteers, who keeps a watchful eye on the lost and found pages, alerted us to a tuxedo in need of assistance. We were able to connect with the local woman to pinpoint his location to set up our traps! Within 10 minutes of our trap being set, McKenzie had walked right in to eagerly consume his dinner!
McKenzie was rushed to the vets first thing in the morning to have a full medical check up; we got the terrifying news a few days later. He was skin and bones, matted with feces, no microchip, intact, with horrible smelling diarrhea. He was expelling everything from rocks, to plastic, to bones, and more! He had literally been eating anything to survive, and it nearly killed him!

McKenzie in May of 2020; ready for his foster home!

In the first few months of his 8 months of recovery, he was confined to a small controlled living space because he would have leakage issues. In the first few months he NEVER made it to the litter box, he’d ruined every bed given to him, and couldn’t even lick a spoon of tuna juice without flaring his intestinal issues. His fur was dull, and clumpy; and he just could not gain any weight!

The Mississauga Humane Society is proud to announce McKenzie has finally graduated to a foster home with full access to the home! He has been accident free since May 2020, and his foster mom is in love with him! She made sure that he had multiple litter boxes, just in case, but he has not had a relapse in weeks! McKenzie is living his GLORY of a safe, indoor, solo cat life. He loves to take naps with his foster mom, play with his toys, and have regular healthy meals twice a day! His fur is becoming silky and snowy white, and he is gaining weight!

UPDATE! MCKENZIE'S FOSTER MOM HAS BECOME HIS FOREVER MOM!!!
